After three stellar years at our second home at The Forks in Winnipeg, Interstellar Rodeo announces that its time in Winnipeg has come to an end. The original edition of Interstellar Rodeo in Edmonton will continue as always, and in fact, the booking process for that festival is already well underway for July 20-22, 2018.

“My staff and I put our hearts and souls into Interstellar Rodeo Winnipeg for three years, as did the many dedicated and wonderful team leaders and volunteers who made this festival the jewel that it was,” comments Interstellar Rodeo’s producer, Shauna de Cartier. “Winnipeg is rich with talented and creative people, and I consider the city to be a home town for me.  I loved every artist we had the honour to present on our stage; and in particular, I consider bringing Beck to Winnipeg to be a career accomplishment.”

“In 2017, we made every effort we could to ramp up (more than double) our talent and production budgets to achieve the growth targets we needed to make the festival viable,” continues de Cartier. “And while we’re not a company to shy away from competing against other ticketed events, it’s not realistic to expect that we would have been able to achieve these targets when contending with the unexpected challenge and impact of two weeks of free, like-minded programming in the same venue right before our own festival.”

We are very proud of our fantastic years in Winnipeg, and grateful to our partners, our sponsors, our volunteers, and our loyal patrons for creating so many great memories and good times.  Winnipeg is a wonderful city and a hub for music and culture.

So what’s cooking for Interstellar Rodeo in the future?  “We’re going to hyper-focus on our Edmonton festival in 2018, and are currently researching and exploring other festival opportunities for 2019,” answers de Cartier.  “We have learned a lot in the nine festivals we have produced to date, and we have no intentions of stopping anytime soon.”

Meanwhile, we’d love to see Winnipeggers at Hawrelak Park next July, just as so many Edmontonians made the trek to Winnipeg for the past three years. Let Edmontonians return the favour of being the incredible hosts you were to them!
