ABOUT & FAQ
Welcome to the second year of Interstellar Rodeo in Winnipeg! Our inaugural festival last year filled our hearts with great music, fine wines, and good times – and we can’t wait to do it again, this time better than ever. We are beyond thrilled to be coming back to The Forks for another incredible weekend on August 12-14, 2016.
We couldn’t be prouder and more excited to bring you this line up of what’s great, what’s hot and what’s next in contemporary roots music and beyond. This year’s lineup includes generational talents, rising stars and musical discoveries to thrill, inspire and satisfy Manitobans looking to experience a music festival that promotes excellence in every way possible.
We are thrilled that Wilco will be returning to Winnipeg to enthrall us with their generation-defining music, occupying a treasured place in rock history at the crossroads of alt and art. We are also over the moon to welcome the heart-of-gold Serena Ryder, whose astonishing vocal prowess and charismatic, memorable performances have made her an Interstellar favourite. The festival closes with the musical story of the year, case/lang/veirs: a true collaboration between three phenomenal, self-driven artists: avant-rock icon Neko Case, legendary musical nomad kd lang, and indie folk star Laura Veirs. We couldn’t be happier that this bonafide supergroup will grace the Interstellar stage for the last stop on their tour.
In addition to the case/lang/viers collaboration, we are thrilled to bring you a range of amazing artists who are also making their Winnipeg debut at Interstellar Rodeo: the hot new blues-rock sensation Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats; the storied soul music hero Lee Fields & The Expressions; the raw and riveting Fantastic Negrito; the fierce and rocking Thao & the Get Down Stay Down; the timeless and dazzling SoCal country crooner Sam Outlaw; and Down Under’s honky-tonk-rock-n-roll wonder, Henry Wagons. All of these amazing artists are finding their way to our middle-of-nowhere prairie town to deliver the show of a lifetime.
We are also thrilled to welcome those more familiar with our well-worn Trans-Canada Highway – those who we consider to be the best of the best of home team talent, including lightning rod superstars in the making, The Strumbellas; roots-rock legends and Toronto darlings Skydiggers, high-art/punk-rock hybrid The Wet Secrets; and the epically wonderful Whitehorse comprised of the incredible Melissa McClelland and hometown boy Luke Doucet. Stay tuned for yet more exciting artist announcements!
We are also delighted that Ben MacPhee-Sigurdson is returning to curate the wines, culled from the collections of Winnipeg’s finest independent wine merchants and served with a smile in the perfect patio GoVino glass. Food vendors are lining up to bring you an incredible array of gourmet delights and festival favourites. And best of all, our incredibly awesome team of volunteers are returning with us to The Forks to deliver the ultimate audience-centered festival experience.
Thank you again to our returning patrons, volunteers and sponsors, and welcome to those who choose Interstellar Rodeo for the first time. We’ll see you at The Forks.
Just be awesome!

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
• Low profile lawn chairs (maximum back height allowed is 36” from the gound) if desired
• Sealed bottle(s) of water (any size) or empty refillable containers – you may fill them up at water-refilling stations.
• Non-professional cameras (No detachable lenses)
• Umbrellas (for rain purpose. No beach or golf umbrellas)
• Sunscreen & bug repellant
Please DO NOT Bring:
• Glass containers
• Professional audio and video recording devices
• Regular sized or large lawn chairs that will obstruct views
• Noise makers/laser pointers/etc.
• Feather Headdresses
CAN I BRING MY OWN BEER?
You are not allowed to bring in alcoholic beverages — our license allows only the consumption of beverages we are serving. We will have beer, wine, cider, and margaritas, and they can be enjoyed anywhere within the fenced site area. Empty, refillable containers are allowed…if there is a question about the content of the container, we will have to empty it out before admission (you can re-fill water once inside the gates). No coolers or glass containers are permitted.
WHAT ABOUT FOOD?
You are permitted to bring food. Please note, however, we will have plenty of food vendors on site serving a variety of delicious items.
I LIKE TO DANCE. IS THERE A DANCING SECTION?
Yes! Areas to dance that are near the stage with good sightlines will be clearly marked. Dance it out!
DO I NEED TO WAIT IN LINE?
It is general admission seating. The space at The Forks has plenty of room for lawn chairs on the flat area in front of the stage, or on the hills a little further back. You can line up to get a prime spot if you really, really want to; however, the sight lines are good from almost every vantage point. There will also be some picnic tables, which are intended as a spot for people to gather and eat — when you’re finished your meal, please clear the table to make room for someone else to enjoy it. For those of you who like to wait in line, please note that a food truck will be on hand to fulfill your food and beverage fantasies. Also, the washrooms of The Forks Market and Johnston Terminal will be open and available for use before the gates open.
WHAT ARE THE SEATING POLICIES?
Seating is GENERAL ADMISSION, which means there is no reserved seating. We expect that people will move around and enjoy the show from various vantage points throughout the site, whether it be the standing room area, the lawn, the hills, or in a food line up.
TARPS. We have a love/hate relationship with tarps. Tarps are good to keep your bottom dry. They’re good to cover your head if it rains. But they’re ugly, space wasting, and cluttersome when they’re not in use. Sooo, bring a tarp if you must, but make sure it’s less than 8’ X 10’.
CHAIRS. Please bring those awesome chairs where the back is less than 36” from the ground.
WHEELCHAIR SEATING: There will be a reserved section for guests in wheelchairs – to the immediate right of the sound booth, in front of the footpath. This should be obvious, but you can’t reserve the seat next to a wheelchair spot unless you are in fact the companion of a person in a wheelchair.
WHAT ARE YOUR POLICIES FOR DISABLED SEATING AND ACCESS?
The Forks is fully accessible, and we will reserve an area for guests in wheelchairs. We will also have a number of wheelchair accessible porta potties. If you require a caregiver, we will admit that caregiver free of charge. Arrangements for this must be done over the telephone at 1-855-465-2459.
IS THERE AN ATM? Yes, within the festival grounds, as well as in the Inn at The Forks, and the Forks Market.
WHAT IS THE TOILET SITUATION?
We will have a good number of portable toilets on site.
However, if you need or just really prefer, The Forks Market and the Johnston Terminal have indoor, flush toilets.
IS THERE A KIDS’ AREA?
No, we do not have an area especially for children – our philosophy is to build a festival that is enjoyable for all ages. However, once you have your wristband, you are able to come and go as you please and enjoy the rest of The Forks Market, including the neighboring Children’s Museum and super fun splash pad!
IS THERE FIRST AID AVAILABLE?
Yes, it will be clearly marked; event staff or volunteers can help you get there if you need it.
ARE CAMERAS ALLOWED?
Yes, amateur photos are permitted, unless we are notified otherwise by the artist. Any photos that are taken can be for personal use only. Please respect the audience and the artist when snapping your shots. In order to use professional cameras, such as those with detachable lenses, you must get a media pass for the use of that camera.
CAN I USE VIDEO OR AUDIO RECORDING DEVICES?
We cannot authorize the use of audio/video recording due to artist copyright issues.
If you wish to record a performance, you must get written permission directly from the artist.
ARE PETS PERMITTED?
Apart from service dogs, pets are not permitted on site.
MAY I REFUND MY TICKET?
Tickets are refundable only in the instance of the entire event being cancelled. Individual artist cancellations will not trigger event cancellation. If one occurs, we will do our best to bring in a replacement artist of similar marquee value. The festival runs rain or shine.
IS THIS AN ANNUAL EVENT?
Yes! Next year’s dates will be August 18-20 2017.
